Cubicles and boxes

Cubicles and boxes

Like shoe boxes

To fit in

Four four taxi seat

Masihlalisane

Move to fit in

move to fit the rest

Like sardines in tin cans

Wake up

Brush your teeth

Catch the bus

Rush to work

Hope you’re early

Do your job

Which is no different from yesterday

Which is no different to tomorrow

Till you’re on constant de ja vu

It’s lunch time

Yay, let’s eat

It’s all we ever do

To curb these frustrations

Think of the gym

Oh wait you can’t afford it

Neither the lifestyle

Fit in or fat out

That is the slogan

Chant it know it

Constant regurgitation

Did we say we want your noble ideas nimbly man?

Cubicles and boxes

How is today any different from yesterday

We bleed yet Africa remains quiet

There she goes again on that ‘African tip’

She will die in starvation much like her brothers and sisters

The shackles are more mental than physical

How is today different from yesterday

The trees whisper a silent cry

We pass by oblivious to realisation

Today is no different to yesterday

A constant and permanent de ja vu

Cubicles and boxes

Don’t blame us you idiot

Can’t you see we’re all a part of the system?

No one is blaming you idiot

If you realise there is a problem

Shouldn’t there be an obligation to change it

Who can find solutions these days?

To this constant , never ending tongue tie

This knitted knot

Cubicles and boxes

We have to fit in

For the economy to run

Who is the economy by the way?

Anyway, cubicles and boxes

We have to fit in

For the economy to run

For trade to continue

For mass building to continue sky scraping

While her children remain dying

Anyway why should you care?

They have been dying for centuries so what’s one more soul?

Cubicles and boxes

Fit in or fat out

Heyi, I want my beemer wena

My lavish house and trips to the grand

Give me heels ,wheels  and deals

Have my blue cheese and croissants for breakfast

If Africa is dying

Let her eat cake

Cubicles and boxes

Cubicles and boxes

Cubicles and boxes….
